In his latest book, Uday Mahurkar tries to present a balanced assessment of Narendra Modi by uncovering and analysing the Modi mantra of governance
The release of the book, Centrestage: Inside The Narendra Modi Model Of Governance by Uday Mahurkar, came at a perfect timing. Uday’s book not only talks about Modi’s governance and visionary initiatives but also his personal side. Uday Mahurkar said, “Writing a balanced book on him was a task, but I took the challenge and feel happy to have accomplished it.” The book has Modi’s anecdotes. In Modi’s power of governance the perpetually loss making power sector of Gujarat was restructured by making a series of difficult decisions. It resulted in being a profitable unit and remains to be that till today.
Surjit Bhalla, an economist, said he is impressed by the way Modi’s mind works. From 2007 to 2012, the growth rate in Gujarat has been about 12 per cent and continues to be on a rise. It is a task to maintain a consistent growth rate but Modi has succeeded in doing so. There has always been a fuss about the Gujarat model and the social indicators of the state. But what is to be understood is that it is not the absolute level of social indicator that is important but the incremental growth. The Gujarat model is about certain principles which are based on PPP, that even though people are willing to pay, that to deliver everything you need to empower and insulate the bureaucracy. One of the most hotly debated topics in this general elections has been the development and governance of Modi’s government in Gujarat. In Centrestage, Mahurkar tries to present a balanced assessment of Modi’s government by uncovering and analysing the Modi mantra of governance. With chapters on energy, technology, agriculture, finance, innovation, Mahurkar aims at understanding and revealing the ground reality through facts and research beyond the media hype.
