While most wannabe stars utilise the reality show platform to make a mark in the industry, Yash Pandit is going the opposite way. After being the face of television shows, he will now be seen in the forthcoming season of Splitsvilla. He tells Swati Sinha that the show will be a medium to reconnect to the youth

He made his first appearance as a child in the arms of Mandakini in the movie Ram Teri Ganga Maili, but Yash Pandit came under the spotlight as a young boy in the movie Haathon Ki lakeeren, along with Jackie Shroff and Zeenat Aman. Since then he has been the chocolate-boy of the television industry, charting out successful shows like Tere Mere Sapne and Savitri. He also tried his luck in movies like Faltu and Rok Sako To Rok lo.
Now, after tasting the waters of TV and cinema, Pandit is going to venture into reality shows and his first stop is the forthcoming season of Splitsvilla. When we spoke to him, he sounded excited “to experience the world of reality shows.” “I have heard a lot about it but to get to experience that for real is what I am most excited about,” he shared.
It is an accepted formula that wannabe actors utilise the reality show platform to gain some popularity before venturing into movies, but here Pandit seems to have taken an opposite route. “You mean going backwardsIJ” he questioned with a laugh and explained his real intention behind joining the show. He feels that though television gives him the opportunity to reach out to the family crowd, it is not enough to reach out to the youth. “Daily soaps are watched by a wide range of audience but more than half of them belong to the older generation. I feel that a reality show is the best way to reach and connect to the audience,” he explained.
He blatantly confessed that although he wanted to be a part of a reality show, when the opportunity came knocking, he had a tough time making a decision. Pandit justified, “It was a tricky decision for me, but I took it up as I wanted to experience something new. An actor usually lives the character he plays on screen, but reality shows give you the opportunity to be yourself and to show who you are in real.”
The show is synonymous with ugly fights, use of inappropriate and vulgar words, and innumerous controversies, but Pandit has a plan. He told us that he will make a conscious effort, not to loose his temper during the show. Keeping cool and trying to come out of the situation as soon as possible will be his key aim. He pointed out, “Abusing back is not  cool. You can’t pretend for long on a reality show, where you are monitored by a camera all the time. I can be aggressive and argumentative; I may indulge in verbal fight but will never cross the line. People may abuse me, but I will never stoop to that level.”
