Singer Bannet Dosanj says winning Rising Star is just a beginning and there is lot more to explore. By Vaibhav Ratra

After months of entertaining viewers through its revolutionary format and path-breaking live audience engagement Colors interactive singing reality show Rising Star ended on a high as  Bannet Dosanjh was crowned the winner. Bannet has managed to reinvent himself within a limited space and time. He has got a certain versatility and appeal that always attracts the audience and despite having a choked throat on finale night he managed to urge a victory.

About his journey in the show, Bannet says, “Rising star has provided me the platform to perform songs of different genre, I never thought about winning. I came here just to learn and to take audience on a journey with me. Wining rising star is just a beginning and there is lot more to explore and learn in singing and will work harder to win the heart of the audience.

“Since my childhood I am very much passionate about singing but I took singing just as my hobby due to my financial conditions but I am fortunate enough that I became the student of Shamshad Ali Khan who always motivates me to continue singing and choose it as my profession,” says Bannet.

He is hugely inspired by singer Diljit Dosanj and wants to take the contemporary Punjabi music to heights.

“The financial conditions of our family was very bad and continuing singing at that time was difficult  for me but the passion made me overcome all the hardships. I have proved the world that mere geography cannot stop true talent from creating history. My inspiration as a singer is Diljit Dosanj as he  has glorified the name of my village and I want to continue the same trend and to take contemporary Punjabi music to new heights.”

Bannet has also got a debut in Vishesh Films’ forthcoming venture. ABout it he says, “Right now I am only focussed on my singing as I am happy in my own space but theatre or a Bollywood film attracts me and I want to show my other side to the audience. My only priority right now is to concentrate on my debut with Mahesh Bhatt’s Vishesh Films as a playback singer.

Vishesh films are known to churn the new talent in singing and with this chance I wanted to take good Punjabi music to Bollywood because I thinks the real contemporary music of Punjab is somewhere left behind.”

Advising budding singers, he shares, “Continue with your passion no matter what problems comes in life you have to face them as there is no alternative to hard work and always try to learn and appreciate good music.

“Winning the Rising star is just a tag for me and in my opinion all the finalist are winner. Methali and Ankita (other finalist) are like my sister, I shared this bond with them since the start of the show. Also before the final  performance my throat was choked up and I cried a lot but thanks to mentors and other finalist who motivated me and believed in me I left all the things on god and try to give my best,” he says, signing off.
