True to Bollywood-style, Sonam Kapoor’s mehendi ceremony saw dance performances and a host of celebrities in attendance
The fashionista is all set to get hitched and not surprisingly the world is abuzz with her sartorial choices.
Veteran actor Anil Kapoor’s house buzzed with celebrities and festivities on Sunday as his daughter and actress Sonam Kapoor’s wedding revelry began with a mehendi ceremony.
Close friends and family members thronged the house which was adorned by lights and soaked in the festive fervour. Sonam and her groom-to-be, Delhi-based businessman Anand Ahuja, looked colour co-ordinated in pastels. While the clothes horse Sonam looked radiant in Anuradha Vakil in shades of lilac, peach and white with heavy gotta patti work. She completed her look with polki chaandbalis, and nude makeup. While her resplendent ensemble definitely became the talk of the hour, she decided to flaunt her footwear towards the later part of the evening. She took to the dance floor wearing Nike slippers. Anand, on the other hand, looked suave in a salmon sherwani.
Photographs and video snippets from the function were splashed across social media. In one photograph, Sonam is seen surrounded by four women, including Bollywood’s ‘henna queen’ Veena Nagda, as she draw out customary designs on the Veere Di Wedding actress’ hand and feet.
The dresscode for the event which was held at the actor’s pad in Sunteck Signature Island at Bandra Kurla Complex was the ‘Indian Festive-Shades of White.’
Among the first ones to arrive at the venue were cousins Jahnvi Kapoor, Khushi Kapoor and Shanaya Kapoor, who were dressed in ethnic wear. Janhvi and Khushi chose Manish Malhotra ensembles for the pre-wedding ceremony.
Also in attendance were cousins Arjun Kapoor, Anshula Kapoor and Mohit Marwah.
Sonam’s sibling Rhea Kapoor was dressed in a subtle cream ensemble, brother Harshvardhan was in a white kurta pyjama teamed with a grey Nehru jacket, and father Anil chose an all-white ethnic outfit. It was Arjun and uncle Sanjay Kapoor, who looked bright in an orange and red kurta respectively.
Sanjay was emotional about his niece’s wedding as he posted a throwback photograph on Instagram earlier on Sunday, and wrote: “20 years back when we danced at my wedding Sonam. Now I will be dancing at yours. Time flies.”
Designer Masaba Gupta on Monday morning posted a black and white photograph of Sonam from her own wedding four years ago. “You will be married tomorrow and I just want to say that in the last 18 years that I’ve known you, you have been the most compassionate woman I’ve known. Your ability to stick up for people who matter and always shower love and warmth on those you love...Even from afar is magical. I don’t think I will ever forget 2009, when I started my label and you called me at 7 a.m. just to say you will be there when I asked you to come in support and we hadn’t even spoken for years” Masaba, wrote alongside the image.
She added that Bollywood can change people, but the Aisha star has chosen to be who she wants to be. “The industry you are in can turn even the best of people, but you have shown to those who know you that you can be exactly who you want to be, hold your ground and still do great work,” Masaba added.
She said that Sonam has made everyone an integral part of her wedding celebrations with long-time beau Anand Ahuja. “Thank you for being my lucky charm and showing us that kindness is the only thing that makes a woman beautiful and being emotional is hardly ever a bad thing,” Masaba added.
Among Bollywood celebrities, there were Jacqueline Fernandez, Siddhanth Kapoor, Rani Mukerji, Varun Dhawan and filmmaker Karan Johar. Designer Kunal Rawal too was seen at the celebrations. The mehendi ceremony was followed by a Bollywood-inspired sangeet celebration for the star-couple. Celebrity choreographer Farah Khan has been reported to be planning the performances.
The videos of the dance rehearsals were also shared by Karan and Varun on their Instagram accounts. In the videos, members of the Kapoor clan were seen dancing on Salman Khan’s chartbuster Swag Se Swagat from the movie Tiger Zinda Hai. In another video, Varun and Karan are captured shooting videos of the rehearsals and Arjun calling them Instagram obsessed. Rhea Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor, Maheep, Masaba Gupta, Anupam Kher and Satish Kaushik among others can also be seen in the photos that have come from Anil’s Juhu residence.
Sonam’s cousin and starlet Janhvi Kapoor is said to have paid a tribute to her late mother Sridevi by dancing on her popular songs like Mere Haathon Mein Nao Nao Chudiyan Hain and Kisi Ke Haath Na Aayegi Yeh ladki, among others. Father Anil Kapoor was seen shaking a leg on his hit songs like Mera Naam Hai lakhan. Even filmmaker Karan Johar who shares a close rapport with the Kapoor family is said to have performed on Sonam’s popular song Prem Ratan Dhan Payo from her own movie. Even close friends Ranveer and Arjun reportedly set the stage on fire with a rocking dance performance together.
