After winning accolades for her performance in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Divya Dutta is devoting time to writing her first novel. She spills the beans to Karan Bhardwaj

Who would understand journey of an independent woman better than an actor, who has personified a woman’s varied emotions on screen. Be it a sister, mother or a friend, she has essayed role of every possible woman in your life. Now, Divya Dutta plans to pen down her experiences in a book. However, she said it is a piece of fiction, a novel, neither her biography nor her own journey. “It is a novel that I have been writing for sometime. It deals with journey of a woman who faces challenges and survives on her own. It’s not an autobiography but is influenced by my personal experiences. Half of it is written and I plan to finish it by year-end,” said the actor who is basking in glory of her latest Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Dutta is fond of reading and already writes columns in a few journals. “At the moment, I am reading short horror stories by Satyajit Ray. They are amazing stories,” she said. The 35-year-old actor wants to act in horror films but haven’t been able to do so. “Horror is one genre I like the most. But I haven’t been offered yet. I am sure it would be a different experience altogether,” she told us.

Dutta was in Delhi and she had just stepped out from a private screening of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. She is flattered by compliments and also by the fact, that she has got more rave reviews than the leading actress Sonam Kapoor. “This is amazing. BMB has taken everybody by storm. Even Sonam appreciated my performance,” she said with a smile. She is also confident of filmy honours to come her way. “Yes, you can expect me getting awards by the end of year,” she laughed. Dutta has played Milkha Singh’s sister in the film and has got praises from Milkha Singh himself. “I had met Milkhaji and he narrated me the personality and told me of the time spent with his sister. I could see his eyes getting moist. It was only that moment when I decided that whoever watches the film should feel the emotions and bonding this man shared with his sibling,” she said adding that after watching the film, Milkha Singh cried the most. “It was a beautiful moment,” she shared.

Dutta thinks putting her in category of supporting artists don’t do justice to her talent. “We all are actors. They are people with limited mind who create such categories. When main actors do it, they are never dubbed as supporting artists. Then why usIJ” she pointed out. Apart from two Hindi films, she is also doing a Hollywood flick, which she says is too early to announce.
