In the last one decade, Shahid Kapoor has learnt from his mistakes and evolved in his choices. He talks to Karan Bhardwaj about being honest in his work and his forthcoming comedy
Shahid Kapoor enjoys stardom today but he humbly recalls days when he would get excited after watching his own posters. He reminisces how he would get down from the car often to help people erecting posters of his first film on busy roads in Mumbai. “It all looks like a dream. Ten years down the line… so much has happened in life and work. Earlier I used to hang out in night with friends. At the time of Ishq Vishk release, I went out and saw some people pasting my posters on a road in Andheri. I got down and helped them. They were also surprised but that was really thrilling,” says the actor who is gearing up for the release of Phata Poster Nikla Hero. For the first time, he will be seen in an out and out comedy venture. “I am really excited. It’s a fun film. I haven’t played such a hilarious character before. I play a role of the young boy who wants to become an actor but his mother wants to see him as a cop. So he ends up enacting both. Now I cannot reveal on what happens finally,” he tells us.
The 32-year-old is working 18 hours a day. “There is absolutely no time. I am dubbing for the movie as well as doing promotions. Nowadays marketing and promotions play an instrumental role,” he says. But do rigorous promotional activities take a toll on actorsIJ “I am fine with it. You have to circulate the word and spread the invitation cards when you get married. A film is no different. Going out and talking to fans and people about it is a great exercise,” he says.
Kapoor has completed 10 years in industry. But he says he was unsure of becoming an actor. “I always wanted to become an actor but never had guts to tell this to my parents. Finally it materialised and I am enjoying it,” he says.
The last decade has taught him many lessons. Now he just wants to concentrate on his work. “I want to go on set, do my job, keep people happy around me and come back home. There are many things that I have learnt in the past and I don’t wish to repeat any mistake,” he says.
Kapoor also expresses that he doesn’t understand why people expect him to be emotional. “There are things that you cannot really dictate. I just want to work sincerely. Whether or not a film works on box office is not in my hands. Trust me, I am in a very happy frame of mind,” he says. Next, he will be seen opposite Sonakshi Sinha in Rambo Rajkumar.
