SHANTANU and NIKHIl share details about their kids collection inspired by Disney characters. TEAM VIVA reports
Designer duo Shantanu and Nikhil are having fun with Mickey Mouse and other Disney characters. It is for the first time that they have created a line for kids and will be putting up a show with 30 winners from the Disney Channel’s Jet Set 2 contest. The winners of the contest will be flying down to Hong Kong Disneyland.
Shantanu and Nikhil have created a collection inspired by Disney’s evergreen stories and lovable characters. The winners and their families will assemble for a gala event on June 17, where the collection will be showcased by the kids themselves against the unveiling of Disney branded Jet Set 2!plane set to fly in the Indian skies.
“We thoroughly enjoyed the process. The concept was interesting as the kids get to meet their stars, someone they have always fantasised about. Our collection has always been an emotional one and this one is special for more than one reasons. We were inspired by our own kids on how close they are with the Disney characters. We are bringing alive the imagination through doodle art,” shared Nikhil and added that the collection will be about lots of colours and fun silhouettes. “There will be mid thigh umbrella skirts, drape tops for girls. For boys there will be Disney character shirts and T shirts with cargos. We have designed a lot of accessories and layering has been done through those accessories in the form of bows and scarves. Other accessories created specially for the show are sunglasses, hand bags,” shared Shantanu.
The designers say that this is just one of the projects right now and presently they have no plans to officially launch their kids range. “We believe that if you launch something give your hundred per cent and right now our plate is full. But there is lot of scope for kids wear in the market. Kidswear is new phenomenon in India and it will only get better in the future. Kids are fashion conscious. It is like technology, we learnt technology here but kids being born today are born with the knowledge of technology, same is the case with fashion. Kids have their own icons and individual dressing styles,” said Shantanu. The designers told us that since last one month they were completely involved with this project and they haven’t designed anything for the Cannes red carpet. “Request to design something for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan came just a few days back and it was too short a time. We might design something for the IIFA,” they concluded.
