It’s not always about well-known actors and big budget movies, says the producer of the forthcoming film Fuddu. Unnati Joshi reports

When the male lead of the film stands naked holding a flower pot covering his privates, you can make out that the filmmakers are seeking some puff. The poster sure has created a lot of buzz. When asked about it, producer, Pradeep Gupta  jokingly said, “Now there is a new poster where he is fully covered.” About the changing trend in the Indian movies, he said, “It’s not about high-flying actors anymore, script is the hero.” Apparently, Ranbir and Katrina also have a cameo in the film. It seems like a conscious move to package the film with Ranbir, Katrina, Sunny leone and Gauhar Khan. “Ranbir has a small part in the song Tu zaroorat hai that also features Sunny leone and Sharman Joshi. Katrina is just helping us in social media ‘because of Ranbir’. We had no established actors, so we needed a face that could bring audience to the theatres,” Pawan Kumar, writer of the film said. Well certainly the writer and the producer of the film don’t agree on the same grounds.

Made in the supervision of Anurag Basu, Fuddu revolves around a boy from a lower middle-class family who has come from Varanasi to Mumbai and the emotional chaos post his marriage. “It’s always the common man who’s at the receiving end. He is the one who always becomes a fuddu,” added he. There couldn’t have been a better title for the film than Fuddu.”

The film is about a common man who has big dreams but gets stuck in a vicious circle of life after his marriage. The entire movie was shot in Mumbai with a few portions in Varanasi. We have also shot the film in a real chawl, we stayed there for around 15 days, so there is lot of hard work involved in the making. In fact, shooting it in a chawl was Anurag’s idea. He also made us remove a song from the film. ‘It is not needed’ is what he told us. The subject of the film is somewhere between Dum laga ke Haisha and Vicky Donor,” explained Pawan Kumar.

Television actress Anita Hassanandani who plays Shagun in the show Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, posted a video with husband Rohit Reddy, where she is rapping the title track of the film. “Yes, I have rapped in the film and it was great. My husband was very supportive throughout.” When asked to rap, Anita fumbled a bit and after a few attempts, she could finally hum it.

About the recent controversies on the roast comedy, Anita said, “I am not doing it anymore. Our contract lasted for a year. When this incident (Tannishtha Chatterjee’s roast) happened, I wasn’t in the particular episode. There have been instances where people have not liked it but before you come on a show like this, you should know it’s all fun and we don’t mean anything. They say stuff to us but in good taste. Shahrukh, Salman they also came and I think they laughed the most. On a show like Comedy Nights Bachao, the roast is never in a bad humour. When you come on a show like this, you can’t expect people to comment, “kya gori chitti hai”. We never fooled anyone into thinking that we will praise you on the show. It’s a concept where we take digs at people and they have to take it in good spirit.”

Directed by Sunil Subramani the film is all set to release on October 14.
