Nishi Grover tellls R Sharma that her book The Bridal Diet lays out scrumptious low-cal meals and easy-to-follow charts for brides-to-be
Every bride is beautiful .It’s like newborn babies or puppies. They can’t help it.’ This quote by Emma Rollins is what most people would agree with. It stands in complete harmony when we say that brides are no less than fairies and with the increasing trend of lavish and theme based weddings, the venue is decorated as no less than a paradise.
The moment your fiancée pops the question or your sister is engaged, not only one but thousand things start to crop up. In India, specifically, marriages are equal to work —loads of work. From selecting the right venue, to customised cards to getting the right outfit. Yes, getting the right outfit is what intrigues and excites most of the women out there.
The general theory that works in almost all the families is that, ‘my cousin wore a designer lehenga then it is a given rule that I need to get a better one so that nobody can steal my thunder.’
But, what we often forget (and it would not be wrong to say) is that most women do more than what is required to get into the right shape and fit into the dress of their dreams. With weddings becoming more and more indulgent and luxurious, women, especially brides, leave no stone unturned to even lose an opportunity for someone besides them to take the center stage. And there is nothing wrong with that, “Who doesn’t want to feel like a bride every day,” says Nishi Grover, the dietician and author of the bestselling, lose a Kilo a Week.
To give her women clients, mainly the brides-to-be, Grover has written a new book, The Bridal Diet for all those who are getting married this season and hope to get back in shape before their D-day. “All the brides who come to me are extremely motivated but the main problem is they have limited time. If they start concentrating on their health after their engagement then who is going to do their shopping, make up or hair,” says Grover.
To solve an issue as critical as this, she has written the book keeping her bride-to-be client in mind and offered guidelines and advises needed for them. “The book definitely has a section on brides but the main focus is on fitness, healthy lifestyle and changing eating habits is laid stressed upon,” adds she.
The book is divided into four parts where Grover is trying to explain the dietary problems related to women getting married in the first part. In this part, she talks of the pressures that are lurking on a bride’s mind and her philosophy behind the beautiful bride programme. The second part deals with the foods that are to eaten during diet plan and also those which are to eliminated for sure. In this section, she also gives a rough -estimate on how many kilos or calories one has to burn before the big day. Grover understands that each individual is different and that’s why each one of them need to be dealt differently. “When a client approaches me, I ask them what they want to be in terms of size and shape. And it is only after their response that I give them my opinion,” says Grover.
The book offers various diet plans and chapters reading as’ losing up to five kilos, losing between five and ten kilos, meat plans and schedule of a day to be followed. “With the help of this book alone, you won’t be able to shed the extra kilos all by yourself. You need an expert’s advice for a regular check-up, to keep a tab on increasing and decease of your weight, blood pressure, et al. Not only this, a lot of my clients agree with me when I say that danda of dietician actually works when you try to cheat from your diet plan.”
The third part of the book deals with problem areas of most women- arms, legs and tummy. This section suggests effective exercises which can be done at home without the help of any trainer. The last section deals with the weight that women put on after their wedding. “Most of them follow the routine till their weddings and by the time they leave for their honeymoon, they come back in the same shape as before the wedding because they think it is not necessary to follow the workout programme,” informs Grover.
She adds,“This is the real problem and we need to understand that if we don’t change our routine and lifestyle and when we plan to change it, it is necessary to follow it. This can only lead to effective results and nothing else.”
Besides this, the book also offers tasty recipes made only for those on special diet diets. “Who said that the diet food has to be bland, boiled and boringIJ It can be as interesting as the regular food that we have. Though I am not a very good cook but for my clients, I have created recipes and modified recipes in low fat,” says she.
