Vipul Mehta, the winner of sixth Indian Idol, talks about his Vande Mataram track and adjusting to evolving trends in Bollywood
Winning the sixth season of Indian Idol was his first shot to stardom. However, the star dust that he bit, settled down quickly and Vipul acknowledged how ‘challenging’ it is to survive in the industry. His debut album Hello Namaste Sat Sri Akal might have failed to make a mark, but his latest track is bound to give you goosebumps. Dedicated to Republic Day, Vipul will release his version of Vande Mataram, penned by an army official Ajay Sehgal. “It is more like a prayer and also praises the armed forces and appreciate the youth deployed at the border. They are ones who provide us a constant sense of security so that we can celebrate all aspects of life,” says Vipul who has also composed the tune. The song will be released by Universal Music India. Vipul says he is evolving with time. “There is less melody now, music is more about rock, rap and fast beats. There is an audience for every kind of music. As a singer-musician, I have tried my best to learn and evolve with time. I think that is helping me in setting a yardstick for myself,” he said.
His voice will be heard in Wedding Pulao’s tracks, “I just finished a recording with Salim and Suleiman. It is directed by Vinod Pradhan and will hit the theatres in April.”
Vipul is going steady but hopes to make it big soon.
“The Indian Idol crown was just the beginning and I knew that I had a tough road ahead. It is very challenging and I put in a lot of effort. I have also done a number of live shows,” he said.
