‘Shivaay is a father-daughter love story,' said Ajay Devgn in a candid chat with Unnati Joshi
An Ajay Devgn film cannot be imagined without some action in it. Barring his few comedy films, the actor has done a lot of high-octane stunt sequences that left us breathless.
Ajay Devgn’s Shivaay has already generated a lot of buzz. Be it for its blood-curdling stunts or its stunning locales or Kamal R Khan’s alleged controversy where he mentioned that he was paid by director Karan Johar to write negative reviews about the film on social media.
The trailer of the film has Ajay Devgn narrating shlokas from Vedic Hindu scriptures describing the transformative capabilities of the deity Shiva. Despite some of these reference points, Shivaay is not a religious or mythological movie, explained Ajay.
“Shivaay is essentially an emotional drama. It’s a father-daughter love story, it talks about family values. To what length a parent, (in this case, a father) can go to protect a child and in that scenario how a child will behave towards the parent,” he told us.
The actor turned director is known to pull a lot of pranks on his co-stars. “I have not pranked anyone this time as I was the director, actor and was the producer as well. I had to handle everything myself so I was too occupied. I was working 18 hours a day, so had no time to prank people this time,” he laughed.
Shivaay is Ajay’s second directorial venture after the 2008 rom-com U Me Aur Hum. What took him this longIJ
“You need to have a thought which really touches your heart to make a film and this was the thought that touched my heart and I feel strongly about a father-daughter bond. I started weaving this bond into a story. It took me so long because I was quite occupied with other commitments,” said he.
“I think nothing works without emotions. Action is something which is very interesting, people like it but only when done in a right way. If I am doing an action sequel just for the sake of it, you will not like it however good it is,” he further added.
The movie is all set to release on October 28, what is that one thing he wants the audience to take away from Shivaay, “lot of people have seen my film now and I have got the exact reaction that I wanted. They had tears in their eyes and a smile on their face. When you see the film, you will know that it’s totally performance oriented and that’s why it took so long for me to cast. The child actor (Abigail Eames) is fab. I can promise you when you see the film; you will definitely agree with me that she is one of the best actors we have, compared to all of us,” he gushed.
The film was supposed to be shot in Canada but not many know that the film has been shot in the virgin locations of Bulgaria and landour. When asked about it, Ajay said, “We were all set to shoot in Canada but then there was some problem. It didn’t snow there and snow is very important element in our film so I didn’t want to compromise. later I got better locations in Bulgaria.”
Kajol who has been very actively promoting the film will not be seen in the film. “Kajol is the producer of the film. You won’t see her in the film. I am starting a film with her in January though.”
But will we see the couple together againIJ “I am not a part of that film. The day we get a script, where we both get our roles right, we will definitely jump at it,” he smiled.
Talking about his forthcoming projects he said, “I am doingBaadshaho which I will start next month and then there is Golmaal 4.”
