Aiming to make lutyen’s zone Open Urination Free, the NDMC has made available a sufficient number of public conveniences at a close spacing of 50 to 200 meters to cope with the basic needs of the commuters.
The attempt is to make over the New Delhi area at par with international standard for extending civic amenities to the residents and others who wish to visit Connaught Place and other areas. Usually about 15-20 lakh people visit Connaught Place and other areas of New Delhi everyday. One can locate the nearest toilet facilities at ‘NDMC311’ App anywhere in New Delhi area.
The Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India has already declared NDMC area as 100 per cent Open Defecation Free. The council has started painting the walls across its jurisdiction to put an end to open urination and it has already developed public as well as mobile toilets in areas where open urination is a normal affair.
In order to bring about attitudinal and mindset changes towards safe sanitary habits, the Council has selected 500 Swachhta Grahi consisting of 150 from Resident Welfare Associations, 110 from Market Traders Welfare Associations, 125 from school students, 115 from JJ Clusters, besides the employees of NDMC to spread the swachhta message across New Delhi area. Swachh Grahi is someone who embodies the attitude, values, commitment and passion to inspire others to join the movement and build a Swachh Samaj.
