The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India ltd (NAFED), the apex national cooperative federation, engaged in procurement of oilseeds and pulses from farmers, has opened its retail bazaars in the newly developed residential complex of Delhi Development Authority in Sectors 34 and 35 of Rohini.
NAFED, under the directions of the Prime Minister’s Office and its administrative Ministry i.e. Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, is working on a retail chain plan to distribute the procured stock from the farmers directly to the consumers, reducing the costs by cutting down the intermediary expenses. Delhi Development Authority has allotted 22 shops in Delhi to NAFED to increase its retail presence in the city. These shops are opening in the newly constructed residential complexes of DDA where there is lack of provision stores to serve the residents. It may be recalled that the residents of Sectors 34 and 35 as well as Narela have been requesting NAFED to open its bazaars in their area, since the civic facilities and provision stores were not available. The residents thanked NAFED and DDA for opening these in their complexes.
In the near future, NAFED plans to open at least 20 such stores across Delhi, primarily in DDA complexes. It has requested DDA to allot more shops, which is likely to happen very soon. This will facilitate NAFED in providing the procured stock from farmers’ directly to the consumers at competitive price, benefitting both ends of production and consumption.
