Janpath Grill House, the restaurant owned by cricketer Ashish Nehra’s brother Bhanu, plays it safe and swears by wholesome flavours. Sharang Bhaskaran checks in

A look inside the Janpath Grill House, run by entrepreneur Bhanu Nehra, brother of cricketer Ashish Nehra, and you would think that you are in a fancy Mediterranean restaurant with Middle-Eastern interiors and an aesthetically rich medieval décor. But a look at the food and drinks menu and you find out that it is like nothing you have ever had before. As the name goes, Janpath Grill House is a mixed grill and buffet joint which brings to life the live barbeque concept along with a delectable selection of food and drinks.

Placed amidst the lively setting of Connaught Place but with its peaceful cosmopolitan ambience, Janpath Grill House is an attempt to unite Delhi and its visitors over food, drinks and enriching conversation. The food is a combination of Indian and Mediterranean cuisine. The owners have sought to redefine the Indian platter with molecular gastronomy. The drama of mixology, live barbecue and molecular fusion are meant to draw in visitors with an element of thrill.

The restaurant plays safe by co-opting world favourites, a mix of Asian, Indian and the world, and it keeps good old tested fusion its priority rather than exclusivity. Whether it’s the beetroot ki seekh, Naga chilli soya or Thai curry chicken tikka; it’s the explosion of tastes and the blend that matters, never mind the grammar.

In case you are wondering, what’s to drink with the all the grilled delicacies, you have a whole lot of surprising options in that department. Have you ever hadlassi with vodka or the plebeianshikanji with ginIJ We’re pretty sure you may not have. But you most certainly can try these whacky and funky takes. If you like more traditional cocktails, then there’s thehalditini and it’s just good as it sounds. A desi variation to the popular martini, it adds the flavour of haldi to the cocktail.
