Vidya Balan shares details of the character she plays in Ghanchakkar and tells us why she loves to promote the film in reel costumes
It is a trend that Vidya Balan started with Ishqiya and she continued to follow it religiously. She promoted Ishqiya as the character from the film, dressed like her and even spoke like her. Then came The Dirty Picture and her knotted blouse, polka dotted shirts and huge glares did the trick and got the film good publicity much before its release. She flew from one city to the other bearing the weight of her prosthetic tummy to promote Kahaani.
These days Vidya can be spotted in frilly frocks, huge hair bands and chunky loops and ear rings. The actress is promoting Rajkumar Gupta’s Ghanchakkar where she is playing a ‘hatti katti’ Punjaban who is very much like most women are. “I had to put on the weight for The Dirty Picture and I was told to maintain that as the director of the film wanted me to play a real character who loves to eat. Whenever she does a workout or goes for a walk she thinks she can take liberty to have one more parantha,” informed Vidya about her character and added, “She is unlike a Bollywood leading lady, but she is overpowering and dominating on screen. Her clothes define her personality,” she added.
Vidya says that promoting the film in actual costumes gives her a chance to interact with her fans as a character and it adds some fun to her work. “It is so much more fun when you approach people as different characters. Also I am a kind of person who would love to be in the skin of the character and feel like one to get the role perfect. While I promote the film I even speak in the same dialect as my character in the film is talking, it gives an audience a better introduction to the character and it makes my work much more fun,” she stated.
