Asad and Zoya, the lead protagonists of Qubool Hai, will finally tie the knot lavishly against the backdrop of Taj Mahal. While in Delhi, actors Rakesh Vashisth and Surbhi Jyoti told Divya Kaushik why a twist was needed

An urgent dose of something thrilling and exciting was much-required to get dwindling TRPs of Qubool Hai in control. The show on Zee TV, which was last in news when actor Karan Singh Grover was asked by the makers to quit, is all set to screen the much-awaited wedding of the lead couple, Asad and Zoya, played by Rakesh Vashisth and Surbhi Jyoti respectively. The duo took a halt in Delhi before proceeding for the shoot of the wedding sequence in Agra. “Production house organised over four weddings for me so far in and I managed to run away from all. People watching the show were so used to my vanishing acts from my weddings that my father once asked me if I am planning to run away from my own wedding. But this time it is finally happening,” said Surbhi. Her character, Zoya, has been through a lot of changes and she says that initially she was criticised for not acting at all but over the years she has proved her mettle to such an extent that in real life too, people like to address her as Zoya. “Co-incidentally the character is a lot like me and so I was just being myself while playing it initially. But as the plot progressed, the character progressed and I have grown up with the role. I understand Zoya’s personality and know how she would react in certain situations,” said Surbhi and added that adjusting with Rakesh, as Karan’s replacement was tough and she did fear that it might affect their chemistry. “I started doing the show with Karan and people recognised both of us as Asad and Zoya. So when the news of replacement came I did think how well will it work. But I trust our producer Gul Khan’s vision. Rakesh did his homework so it wasn't difficult,” said Surbhi.

The wedding sequence will pave way for more twists and turns in the show, say the actors. “The story requires such a change to take things forward. Wedding is just a beginning and there will be more interesting twists happening to the story after this sequence,” said Rakesh, who feels that the show has helped leaps and bounds his TV career. “After my film Tum Bin, there were series of flops and my show Maryada did give me some recognition. When I received the call from Gul, I thought that it for some new show. But when she told me that it will someone’s replacement I thought it would be unfair to play the character which has got popular due to some other actor’s hard work. But then she convinced me and I am glad that the audience has been kind,” he said. Zoya said that weddings have always been a USP of shows.
