Make your own sound

Amid the hustle of international line-ups and hype surrounding artistes, we met Kerano, a DJ from ‘Saddi Dilli’ at the music festival, Sunburn. Kerano, who has been DJing under a different name earlier, changed it to Kerano eight months back. The Delhi boy who is known for his genre of progressive music seemed quite excited after the response he got at the festival. “You know, festivals like these offer a big platform. The response was great and I was glad that I could perform here,” he shared.

As we have only been getting an international perspective on the music scene in India, we asked the young DJ of  what he thinks about the present music sceneIJ “It is definitely growing in the country but we need to stop taking the West as the standard. We need to start creating our own thing and we need to make our own market. Then we can take that market internationally. Right now, if I go and make music like any other DJ from the West then it is not going to make any difference. Because he has already done it. I feel we need to create music that is ours,” he replied.

He added that if local talent needs to be heard then they should focus on originality. “We all need to focus on originality. I know that it  is very tough as we are so influenced by the West. We need to change that thinking.   The mentality needs to be more about making original music and ideas and not copying others,” he said.
