Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone pat each other on the back, while Kapoor explains what it’s like playing characters with quirky names and dancing with Madhuri Dixit. By Team Viva
Ayan Mukerji, Ranbir Kapoor and the film script, are three factors that inspired Deepika Padukone to be part of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. The 27-year-old actress is excited to share the screen with her ex-boyfriend and hopes to strike gold at the box office. “Bachna Ae Haseeno did not do justice to our onscreen chemistry. YJHD is a fabulous outcome of collective efforts. I hope to work with Ranbir more if audience likes watching us together,” she said while chatting with scribes in Delhi.
She said that Ranbir has always been confident and comfortable in front of camera but has magnified as an actor over the years. Padukone got rave reviews in Race 2 and Cocktail, but failed to impress with Aarakshan. “I have always done movies I believed in. The success or failure depends on the audience’s reaction. But commercial output doesn’t influence my choice,” she asserted.
She will be seen next in Chennai Express opposite Shah Rukh Khan. Sitting next to his ex-flame, Ranbir Kapoor began with showering praise on her. “Deepika is professional but unpredictable also. Sometimes she is sober, but she also gets wild. People are only discussing about me and Deepika in this film. There is more to it.”
He added, “This is my second film with Ayan. Initially, I was unsure how all of us, the four actors including Aditya Roy Kapoor and Kalki Koechlin, would bond. But we spent time in Manali and ended being friends,” said Kapoor, who gave award-winning performance in his last flick, Barfi!. Asked about his choice of characters with unconventional names like Jordan, Barfi, Bunny and Pepsi, he said “I like odd characters with different personalities. It is easier to do because you have to follow a certain protocol. But films like YJHD or Anjaana Anjaani require your own personality. It is difficult to portray that on screen, because you have to be careful what needs to be exposed and what not.” The 30-year-old actor is upbeat about his item song with childhood crush Madhuri Dixit. “Everyone dreams of working with her. It was Karan Johar’s idea to do this special song. I think I am lucky to have accomplished my dream to dance with Madhuri.”
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is a carefree tale of life which deals with dreams, ambitions, hopes, friendship and love of four characters on a journey. The film releases this Friday.
