Designer Payal Jain’s twins came up with their first art exhibition for a noble cause. They spoke to Karan Bhardwaj

While their mother is a famous fashion designer, the young kids are already set to carve their own paths. At 13, Payal Jain’s twin boys, Jai and Yash Mehta, hosted an art exhibition titled Dreams at Triveni Kala Sangam.  The proceedings of the exhibition were donated as a charity. Their designer mother may be used to giving interviews and face paparazzi, but the young artists are a little reclusive. So their mother came up first to talk about it. “The idea came from our visit to the NGO, The Earth Saviours Foundation. I had heard that they rehabilitate homeless old people in the city. So when we checked into one of the centres and saw the noble activities, we felt we too should contribute something to them. Selling art was an immediate thought,” Jain said.

Jai and Yash are both learning art for the last four years under the tutelage of artist Vallery Puri. They draw portraits, cityscape, landscape, nature and what they observe in daily life. While their mother shies away from using colours in her designs, it is interesting to see their paintings full of hues. “This is their style. I love it. Art is about colours on canvas,” Jain said.

The exhibition displays a total of 54 pieces, divided into different series. In one series, there are faces talking to each other. Others include rural and urban settings, stars and dark night. There are some black and white paintings, too. Prices are kept nominal and start from Rs 2,500.

We asked Jai if he owes his creative genes to his mother, he replied, “Maybe, a little. I am not sure if I will join the fashion industry. I haven’t decided anything so far.” The boys spend quality time learning music and sports. They play instruments too. Jai plays bass guitar while Yash is good with drums.
