Producer Ekta Kapoor shares that Kehne Ko Humsafar Hai 3 is about tangled relationships in the form of love, complexities and pain
Producer Ekta Kapoor has come up with the third season of Kehne Ko Humsafar Hai. It explores the dark, toxic and complicated side of relationships. She believes that it’s going to be dark, dogma and delicious that showcases life always comes a full circle.
What’s the biggest challenge and responsibility as a maker when you speak about mid-life crisis and toxic relationship?
The third season, primarily revolves around three main characters — Rohit (Ronit Roy), Ananya (Mona Singh) and Poonam (Gurdeep Kohli), who talk about their tangled relationships in the form of love, complexities and pain. I think, after a point, most of the people come to a point where they start questioning their own decisions in terms of relationships, career or anything else, likewise the characters of the show.
Infidelity is the core reason of many breakups. How would one justify it in the society? Why are there judgements when a woman has an extra marital affair while men feel they can get away with that?
Infidelity is perceived differently by both genders; for men, it’s more physical and for women, it affects them more mentally, however both are infidelity. I feel its actually the lack of communication that breaks down a relationship causing people to look outside the marriage.
This season also deals with an older woman relationship with a younger man. How important is it to normalise this taboo in this society with dignity?
I don’t think it is something new that we are trying to showcase through the show. If a woman have had a failed relationship in her 40s and is divorced, she could certainly fall in love again with a man, irrespective of his age. She has the right to make that decision for herself without thinking about society or its norms.
Is season 4 on cards?
Yes, it will have a fresh new base and may be loosely based on the real life story of a Bollywood star-wife and her extra marital affair. The new season will have the nuances that the first three seasons had, but with a totally fresh cast.
The show is written by Mukta and Jaya and directed by Abhijit. It also features some dialogues that truly justify and showcase the emotional mindset of each character that will stay with the audience for long.
