A group show at Visual Arts Gallery is about experiments with mixed media
Be it burnt wood, ceramics or even trash, different unconventional materials have been used by the artists to communicate different subjects and emotions. The group show, Inner Vision, at Visual Arts Gallery, India Habitat Center, displays artworks in mixed media. While MS Rawat works with burnt wood, Harminder Singh has used waste material on his canvas and Rekha Bajpe Agarwal has primarily worked with ceramics for her artworks depicting women issues. Apart from these experimental works, there are artists who have used traditional methods and come up with interesting artworks. One of the participating artists is Gaurav Chawla, whose abstract works define happiness. “My paintings are all about good vibrations. Each one of us is busy with different things in life but it is up to us to find happiness in the mundane. I take inspiration from small joys in our lives that can bring happiness to us,” says Chawla about his artworks.
He believes that abstracts have the strength to make people look beyond the obvious and therefore he has mostly worked with abstracts. “I use bright colours in my paintings to convey my thought. I believe in abstracts as there are no boundaries or definition to it. One can look at the artwork and come up with their own interpretation,” explains Chawla.
He adds, “Constant monotony can lead to restlessness, depression and at times serious health issues. life is a festival and art should be such that it inspires people to celebrate this festival. At this exhibition, you can find artworks in different styles and media like oil, acrylic, charcoal. Each artwork will depict the inner sight of artists and their moods like colourful, vibrant and happy. I have worked with oil on acrylic and have used brush and palette knife to create different textures in my artworks.”
