Image makeovers or traps?

Some Bollywood folks are making quite a number of statements with their sick (literally) dance moves, style mantra, et al. While some bask in marital bliss, others are gung ho about youth support. A complete hogwash or an honest attempt to step up their gameIJ

Haunting jawani

Recently, we saw buckets full of water being splashed at Kareena Kapoor Khan. No, it wasn't another ice-bucket challenge and no it did not help in reducing the water-level of the incessant rain-hit city of Mumbai. But it was for an item song in actor Akshay Kumar's next film Brothers.

The song Mera Naam Mary has it all —  the sensuous lip biting by the actress while maintaining steady eye-contact with the camera as if it were a staring contest. So don't blink. Then there is the slow twerking in the silver (wait, it seems to be gold so this could also be the next 'Is it gold or silver challenge') shimmery sequined tube top and a skirt. We also see her stripping during the song video (could also be a body double) so this also beats Munni and Sheila when it comes to keeping clothes on.

It is one thing to look sexy and saleable, quite the other to be kitschy salacious. Did we need her thrusting her derriere and giving back massages a deeply corny overtoneIJ Did we mention the tapori dance moves with the seeti bajao stepIJ

One line that really did raise our eyebrows goes something like this: Badi garmi hai teri har baat mein, aja sason ka AC chala du. Translating the line is something we decided to forgo. And no thank you, unless you've been chewing on some breath mints.

Innumerous debates have also been held on the “dangerous and negative aspects” of such songs and the term 'item'. Some are again offended by the track and it seems like another controversy will soon brew up.

Twitter user Kashif Qureshi wrote: @akshaykumar Mother Mary ws an epitome of faith n character. Its a sin whn sch a sacrilege is inflictd on her name in d name of entertainment (sic).

Piracy is also being alleged by some who are calling it a copy of a Marathi song.

looking “sexy and glamorous” is also what Kapoor's mother-in-law (Sharmila Tagore) wants for her. The 34-year-old actress in a recent interview had said, “She likes me in glamorous parts. She liked me in Fevicol song (the item song in Dabangg 2)”.

Women’s commissions feel otherwise as the Heroine has earlier faced their wrath for her jhatkas in songs Fevicol Se, Halkat Jawani, et al.

Uptown girl or notIJ

Strut with all your might is what we've learnt from the Queen of B-town Kangana Ranaut. The actress was recently spotted with her designer friend Manish Malhotra in a black and white checkered crop top (more like a retro swimsuit top) and a matching skirt with a front slit. A grey designer bag, black shoes and the bold red lips completed her look or maybe notIJ We aren't too sure. Does the Queen need such aggressive, drop-down devices when she has the chopsIJ

Another day, another fad

ShahidKiShaadi has finally stopped trending or not really since the  social media is still abuzz with #AfterShahidKiShaadi (we just created this hashtag) photos. The newly-weds entering the Delhi airport hand-in-hand and we all aww-ed.

Mr and Mrs Kapoor reached Mumbai, again hand-in-hand, and Shahid also smiled for the shutterbug so this definitely called for more awws.

The couple then drove away in a car followed by a Grah Pravesh.

The minute-by-minute update surely makes Shahid's wedding to Delhi girl Mira Rajput, the most documented wedding of all A-listers of Bollywood.

But it got us wondering. Shahid does not have the mettle of the Khans but does have talent in his muscle. While we like his attempt at privacy, the minute-by-minute posts on Twitter and Instagram beg the question: Wasn't Instagramming and tweeting a clever tool to sell his off-screen life at an all-time highIJ Come on Shahid, did you need this blitzIJ ReallyIJ We like your muscles but this desperate overdrive emasculates your persona and talent.
