The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) organised a convocation of its western India branch in Mumbai to formalise its associate membership for the newly-qualified CS members. Around 750 newly qualified members hailing from the states of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat and Chhattisgarh attended the convocation and received their certificate of associate membership. The meritorious students of the examinations held last year were also felicitated.
Dr JN Mishra, Chief Executive Officer, Indian Institute of Banking and Finance, was the chief guest at the ICSI western region convocation (first session). He congratulated the newly-qualified company secretaries for their exemplary performance and the new CS members by motivating them to remain inquisitive throughout their lives, saying this would ensure constant growth of their knowledge. Mishra also urged the students to follow the path of truth and ethics in their future endeavours and guide the corporate world on governance and compliances.
CS (Dr) Shyam Agrawal, president, ICSI, while speaking on the occasion informed that “the path to success is through hard work and perseverance and not through accumulation of wealth.” He also stated that, “there are instances of overnight success stories, which were ultimately doomed as the people involved chased the wealth and lost track of their real success. To excel in the right sense is chasing your professional/personal goals and letting the results take care of themselves, making the process of achievement supreme and making the result irrelevant.” He advised the students to perfect the process of performance and not to allow the pressure of the result to choke it. We are entering a world that increasingly rewards individual aspiration and persistence and can measure precisely who is contributing and who is not. He advised that each student should consider investing in oneself so as to witness the transformation which will happen in each one.
The idea is to promote Indian culture among future leaders and shed colonial traditions. “The whole world is changing in all the spheres at a mind-boggling speed. In this transformational environment, ICSI believes that the best gift it can give to its students is the ability to understand this very basic nature of change so that they are well prepared for the future,” Dr Agrawal added.
