The Institute of Company Sceretaries of India celebrated ‘PCS Day’ today, to commemorate 15 June, 1988, a historic day when the company secretaries in practice were accorded recognition for certifying the annual returns under the erstwhile Companies Act, 1956. June 15, 1988 became the first mile stone in the development of the practising side of the profession of Company Secretaries in India.
Mamta Binani, president, ICSI, lauded the role of company secretaries and their contribution to promote and sustain good corporate governance in the small and medium business sector across the country, and said, “Today, India is one of the fastest growing economies of the world and its democratic beliefs, entrepreneurial talent, strong and skilled pool of human resources, well defined regulatory mechanism and the robust domestic demand have contributed immensely towards achieving this goal.”
“ India’s transformation has not been without challenges. It has spelled out new challenges in terms of demand of highest standards of quality and ethical practices. Professionals like company secretaries have an increasingly distinct and well defined role to play in turning these challenges into beneficial business opportunities which are taking the nation forward at a greater speed”, she added.
