Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan inaugurated a new watch boutique in Noida, riding the crest of her latest success. Unnati Joshi reports

After the Rs100-crore plus return on her glamorous outing in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has taken to European styling as her red carpet staple. Draped in a beautiful royal blue gown with a cape, wavy hair bouncing effortlessly, rose pink lips and a bit extra concealer hiding her dark circles, Aishwarya embodied a prominent watch brand’s slogan, “Elegance is attitude”. The Indian beauty has been the ambassador of the Swiss brand longines for about 17 years now and has reinvented herself at each stage to remain a relevant role model.

“Whenever I inaugurate a new boutique, I feel a sense of pride and honour. The brand has become a favourite among the people of India,” she told mediapersons at a Noida mall where the brand launched another outlet. Ms Rai Bachchan was very conscious about her time commitment though, zooming in and out from her swanky car in precisely 30 minutes. Nevertheless, she could not escape a reaction on the government’s demonetisation drive and how it would impact the weekend shoppers. “I appreciate the Prime Minister’s decision and I think it’s a step in the right direction. I hope that we are able to fight corruption with this initiative,” she said, swishing out and without courting any opportunity for controversy. She took a walk around the store, where, of course, nobody was allowed. After clicking a few selfies with the staff, she chose to depart. The only thing we could not understand was how a ten-minute interaction of the “elegance ambassador” going to help the brandIJ Not much really if you ask us.
