Television actor Yuvraaj Malhotra will be next seen in an episode of Fear Files. He shares why he believes in supernatural elements

He might have donned that brave look as a fearless cop on the small screen but in reality Yuvraaj Malhotra is “extremely scared” of ghosts. “I believe in spirits,” he admits. The actor, who will be seen in Zee TV’s BBC Production of Fear Files-Har Mod Pe Darr, Sindoor, says he is “deadly scared of apparitions, unusual visions and appearances.”

He shares his reasons to take up the show. “I have never tried horror and thriller genres, so I am pretty excited for this new job,” he says  adding that he could relate to the situation and circumstances narrated in the show. “Stories of people being possessed by a spirit are common in remote parts of India. I could relate to it since the wife of one of our labourers was possessed. She would walk out every night into the adjoining forest and return at the crack of dawn and during that time if anybody tried to touch her, she fiercely retaliated and spoke in a different voice,” he adds.

The experience of acting in a thriller was challenging for Malhotra. “To give a convincing act in a thriller and appearing scared is not a cake walk. My own fear for the supernatural helped me look real on screen. I used to imagine myself in that situation and draw the emotions from my own fears,” he shares.

He tells us that his all-time favourite horror movie is Evil Dead and points out that the Indian television industry needs to upgrade techniques to make such genre look real. “When they show blood, people know that it’s ketchup. You can no more sell frizzy hair, blood-shot eyes and ghosts with powder white faces,” he says.
