'I am too young for a Padma Shri'

She may be controversy’s favourite child but what we like best about Kangana Ranaut is her seamless way of breezing through them and holding her own.

So it came as no surprise when a renowned fashion label rolled out an entire range, dedicated to her and inspired by Venice. Sassy as ever, Kangana said people follow her style sense because they can relate to the modern thinking that comes across in her choice of outfits. “I think women identify with the ideology that I stand for, that is to follow your own path, be your own person and have your own life and priorities and not be a quintessential Indian woman who puts herself below everyone. Anything that concerns art is not about the certain person. It is about the ideology, expression and thought behind it,” said the actress, who has worked on silhouettes and fabrics.

What about reports that she was  reportedly recommended for a Padma ShriIJ “I don’t feel bad about it. I am too young for a Padma Shri. To be honest, I wouldn’t want it right now. It’s a big deal, and also if you misbehave they take it back. Something or the other keeps happening in my life...,” she said cheekily. “So, I think I’ve a long way to go before I get a Padma Shri... It is more than just work, it’s about being an ideal example to the rest of the country which I don’t think I am.”

The range sees scenic prints of the city, captured and blended with pastel hues. “It is inspired by the city of Venice, which is beautiful in its own unique way. I think it is very cool to draw inspiration, not just from people, era, or music, but to draw inspirations from destinations like Venice as well,” said Ranaut, who is making her debut as designer of sorts.

The silhouettes from the collection are sensual with a lot of drama, juxtaposed with colours that bring forth the freshness of summer. “We have used surreal visuals as digital prints on garments and given them a romantic tone,” she added.

While many have lauded Kangana’s fearless response to the legal fracas with Hrithik Roshan, she has also been criticised by some people. But Kangana says she is very happy with the appreciation but does not consider herself special. “I am an actor, I am here to do my job. Right now, I don’t know how these tags like that of a fashion designer or a feminist fit into my scheme of things. But it is nice that these virtues have been bestowed upon me, that people think I have high morality standards and believe my creative energies are such that I can be an actor, director or a superhuman. But I don’t know if I am that special as people think me to be.”

Kangana feels she has not realised her true potential as an actress and she would want to concentrate on her work more now. “Right now, I think I am doing fairly good. I am concentrating on my work. In fact, at times, I feel I am not living up to the best of my abilities but I will manage. And one day I would love to be all this that people call me.”
