Rajesh Pratap Singh’s latest line of tees is inspired by the cartoons of Mario de Miranda. The designer says he didn’t tamper with the original graphics
How about carrying intelligent humour on sleevesIJ It has nothing to with your brains but a new line by designer Rajesh Pratap Singh, who is now inspired by cartoonist Mario de Miranda. He has come up with some fun tees which not only look cool but also nostalgic. In one of the tees, the front has the mirror image of an alcoholic and the backside holds a police man showing his back. This tee conveys different comical meanings left to the interpretation of the observer. Such alterations have been made to derive the best from Miranda’s works. “We have taken two different artworks and combined it on one tee. We have tried to add a little bit sense of humour by picking two opposite art pieces,” says Rajesh.
With a unique style and an unparalleled sense of humour, Miranda was one of the India’s most versatile cartoonists and painters. Earning appreciation in India and all over the world, this illustrator has drawn India and its major social and political changes from 1960s. Rajesh says, “We grew up with the artist and I personally love his work. Most people of my generation have grown up with lots of Mario’s books and his imageries. His work is complete and I didn’t want to tamper or disturb it. Here, we have only made little changes without interfering with his basic idea.” Maintaining the integrity of the original design, Rajesh Pratap Singh brings his perspective complied with subtle elements that compliment Mario’s artworks. Rajesh grew up in different cities of Rajasthan, including Jaipur, and these form the inspiration of his designs. “I am in business of making clothes and my inspiration or what I call as visual reference, comes from Rajasthan. It plays a big role in my life. Rajasthan is formed of its people and clothes, and this precisely makes the foundation of what I do,” he adds.
Rajesh sees a bright future in online stores, primarily because of the accessibility and that one can have a comfortable and private experience of shopping at home. Understanding that his customers may no longer want to limit themselves to a brick and mortar experience of shopping, Rajesh has made this collection available at myntra.com.
