Our world today is full of chaos, disasters and crime but it is important for us to stay positive
What does hope mean to you? Does having hope help to motivate you every day to get out of bed and go about your daily routine? Hope gives us a reason to exist. Without hope, life can be dull and sad.
My favorite definition of hope is “To expect with confidence: trust” (Merriam Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, page 598, 2003). We must be aware of the signs of hope that we encounter daily.
Personally, hope motivates me to do more. I love the quote, “Be the change you want to see in the world” (Mahatma Gandhi). I realise that by doing the right thing, being kind and helpful, I can help to change our world today. Even though I am one person in a troubled community, I realize that I can do something to give others hope. Hope energises me, makes me happy, and makes my day better. I realise that every day I need to do something to give others hope. It truly makes the world a better place, despite bad things that happen.
My family gives me hope. The love and comfort I have from them allows me to be hopeful. I am blessed to have them. My job as a teacher at Huntington Middle School gives me hope. The smiles, love and motivation from those who live in unfortunate situations gives me hope that they will succeed in life and be in a better place someday.
My church gives me hope. Whether I am helping or sitting in the pews during a Sunday service, I always get emotional when I hear powerful music, witness the participation of so many children, or hear of ways that faith has helped someone change their life in a positive way.
It is critical for us to have hope. Hope allows us to have goals and dreams for ourselves. Without it, we merely exist. As a world, we hope for peace, of course, but we also hope for leaders who make good choices and work together instead of against each other. As a nation, we can hope for leaders who care about people, represent our country well, and make quality decisions.
As a community, our hope is that drug addicts recover, get educated, become good parents, get a job and contribute to the community in a positive way. As a teacher, my hope is that I inspire as many students as possible to actually want to succeed in life by following rules, having dreams and goals, and to make those dreams happen. As a mother, my hope for my children is to be happy, to contribute to society in a positive way, and to help and give when able to do so.
I feel like I am meant to do my job as a teacher at HMS. Lately, I have commented to some that this is where I am meant to be to reach those students who need extra attention and care. While I always feel like I can do more, I try my best every day to greet each child by name, show them that I care, and encourage them to try their best in order to have hope in their life. I truly love what I do and care about my students as if they were my own children. I believe that by showing them that someone truly cares about them, it can allow them to have hope.
Anyone can positively impact another person’s life by being kind, smiling at them, being helpful and showing that you care. Greeting people, offering to help others, showing random acts of kindness and volunteering are all ways we can make the world a better place and to be hopeful. We need to be aware of those who need hope in their lives and do what we can to help foster that.
Our world today is full of crime, chaos, disasters and shocking news. In order for us to continue staying positive, we must have hope. People also need to be aware of how their attitudes, words and actions contribute to the mess we are in. We have to be understanding, compassionate and motivated to turn things around. We cannot be part of the problem; we must be part of the solution to turn things around. Most of all, we need hope to make this world a better place.
