Bill Watson, Toni & Guy’s international ambassador, tells Pallavi Gupta about his initial years in the profession

life is an endless struggle full of frustrations and challenges, but eventually you find a hair stylist you like,” said someone. Undoubtedly, your hair can drive you crazy and maintaining it has been a task for women for ages. We had a chance to visit a Toni & Guy salon and we saw young hair stylists passionately hair dressing their clients. Company’s international ambassador, Bill Watson, was there personally supervising and correcting the professionals.

Watson is a humble guy who believes in simplicity. He sticks to the mantra of educating his stylists.Speaking excitedly about his journey Bill said, “You cannot do this stuff on your own. I moved to london from New Zealand and it was devastating in the beginning, you are paid low and you are compelling strangers for free haircuts, that is a real tick on your ego, making you wonder why you are doing this. But, it’s the people around you who get your gut together and that drives you further. The team you work with motivates you to explore your creativity.” Watson is a man adept in his craft. He says a perfect hairdo makes people happy and happy people makes him happy.

Toni & Guy is soon opening its first academy in North India thereby raising the bar in the Indian hair dressing industry. It also is partnering with l’Oreal India to introduce external courses for hair styling enthusiasts. Talking about the scope of this industry in India, Watson said, “The scope in India is huge. We are not here to tell what is trending, but to help women get a haircut that suits them.”
