The Amazon India Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2017 kicked off with sizzling hot runway displays. The opening show had around 16 designers, showing their love for Chanderi
In a bid by Jyotiraditya Scindia to revive the textile, Fashion Design Council of India celebrated the weave at the opening show of the fashion week. The handloom textile that dates back to 11th century is woven on the loom by weavers from the small town of Chanderi in Madhya Pradesh.
The show was called Road to Chanderi, continuing the revivalist momentum of Banarasi and khadi. Apart from a 16-designer strong opening show dedicated to Chanderi, hand-crafted fabrics and detailing will be part of other shows too.
Sanjay Garg
Sanjay Garg delved into the world of Chanderi with actress Aditi Rao Hydari walking for his label Raw Mango on the opening day. Her look was amplified with the wrap-around styling of dupatta. It looked like she walked the ramp with no makeup on. The collection was high on the colour black, although neon and off white had a good game. High waist sari paired with full sleeved balloon armed blouse took us back to the 70s.
Aneeth Arora
Péro by Aneeth Arora showcased their spring-summer 2017 titled “Forbidden Garden” in an alternative way of presentation. Aneeth Arora showcased cold cut shoulder light flowy tunics, all in hues of white with a flower or two giving a simple attire a very classy look. The collections shown by the designers exuded simplicity in classy and wearable colours like cream, pale yellow, grey, dull silver, peach and green.
“This is one of the many firsts for us, as fashion connoisseurs will savour a unique showing at the upcoming AIFW SS’17. With Aneeth Arora’s show, we take a step forward to offer something creative which is virtual in its appeal, and futuristic in its approach as the show will be beamed at the exhibition area NSIC Grounds from Aneeth’s garden,” said FDCI president Sunil Sethi.
Samant Chauhan
Known for aesthetic ideas and great taste in choosing fabric and silhouettes, Samant Chauhan’s collection was a fusion of ethnic culture with Grecian influence. The designer played well with Chanderi. Be it a fitted bodice or a cape blouse, he has mesmerised us with his collection. Anyone can tell it's him when they spot all that gorgeous gold detailing on the ivory. Colours like off-white, gold, pink, blood red (Samant’s favourite), blue and turquoise were the highlights. He also used organza, which added a dose of drama to the runway.
