Designer Ritu Beri, who is currently recasting khadi and giving it a global makeover, had a ramp walk at the ongoing trade fair to show how it could liberate itself with contemporary grammar.
The new collection is about voluptuous indulgence and has a huge variety for men and women. It is a blend of ghagras, salwars, choga like jackets and easy wear tops. The colour palette ranges from whites to pastels, metallics to blacks.
The show started with a dance performance (Ganesh Vandana). Chairman KVIC Vinay Kumar Saxena, BJP spokesperson Meenakshi lekhi and IPS MK Meena were among the few dignitaries to grace the show.
“Now, when I look back, I realise that I have always been in love with this fabric. Khadi makes the person stand out. My great grandfather was a big believer in the significance of khadi in nation building. I remember an unbreakable rule existed in our house that everybody should wear khadi,” said Beri.
