Sucheta Khanna plays chirpy roles as Poli in Yamla Pagla Deewana and Indumati in lapataganj. She chats with Team Viva on taking things as they come
With the support of Sachin and Supriya Pilgaongare, Sucheta began her career as a fashion model. Based in Pune, she enrolled in a fashion feature with a friend, then moved to Mumbai, where she modelled for magazines like Femina and multiple clothing lines.
Taking opportunity as it comes seems to be Sucheta’s mantra.
“I don’t plan too much,” says the actress whose first film, Naam Kya Hai, never saw light of day.
Her career kickstarted with Pooja Bhatt on Dundh, a TV adaptation of WutheringHeights.
Her latest TV outing, lapataganj enters its second season. It brought her recognition and Sucheta tells us it made her a more confident person. “When the season one got over, fans wanted me back. It feels good when you’re missed.”
She is now associated once more with the Deols, with whom she featured earlier in the first Yamla Pagla Deewana. She rose to fame as Poli. Sucheta apparently adores the Deol family and considers them like her own khandaan.
“They loved and pampered me so much. I don’t mind being part of their movies. Even if it was just for one scene. Dharamji would say the second film could not be made without Poli,” she remarks, stating the reason for the continued association.
Sucheta regards this second coming as a “dream come true. It was lovely working with them.” Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 is set for a June 7 release.
Speaking about reality shows, she expressed interest in Nach Baliye and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. She hasn’t received offers to participate in them yet. Apart from involvement in the film and television industry, Sucheta also handles a firm dealing with clothes. Another film in which she appears, we are told, “is on the national awards platform.”
