After textured walls dominating this season, Masooma Rizvi feels 2018 will focus on contemporary or traditional wall art with indoor gardens
Textured walls
Though wall texturing is an old phenomenon, it came in a more refined form this year. The forthcoming year will, therefore, see a trend in embellishments and displays that will invest each panel with a character of its own. We’ll see a lot more highly textural fabrics with contemporary woven metallic threads in the weave. Embossed surfaces, three-dimensional finishes and glass and metal detailing will add layers to finishes.
Mixed pattern with layering
The trend that was spotted this year was the use of mixed patterns while adding layers to your bedroom. A lot of cushions in different shapes and sizes made for a multi-layered cozy look. The unexpected contrast of weaves and prints may not work at times, but if done right, layered rugs can pop in a playful way, and, more practically, pull together a space.
Fold-up appliances
Space is a huge issue in metropolises these days. The kitchen décor is moving to more tuck-away appliances — retractable kitchen slabs, move-in dishwashers and more.
Dark paints on the walls
leave aside just the holiday homes in shades of grey and white, darker shades of grey, brown and green were much in use for adding a bold touch to the walls. It was easily tuned in with some soothing interiors to create a different yet classy look. The light pillow covers and cushions with sober carpets balanced the overall look in a unique way.
Eco friendly decor
Eco-friendly décor not only soothes the sight but also your soul. Investing in green products is a smart way to feel you are contributing towards a healthy environment. Refurbish old furniture, repaint and showcase them as a statement piece this coming season. Table decor with flowers, succulents, or other houseplants is a great idea for eco-friendly décor.
Faux finishes
There was an increased use in faux-finished patterns, from removable wallpapers, to sofa covers, to faux floral floor decals, making it easier than before to make quick décor changes. Faux paintings create surfaces that glisten in the light or transport you to another era, giving you a rustic feel with the old-fashioned plastered look.
Metallic patterns
Background patterns are often used to support the overall design of the interiors. They help create an appealing tone to the design concept. Sheer metallic glaze on the walls, metallic lamps, textures in ceiling fixtures can let you play with little bit of creativity while designing your interiors.
Indoor gardens
To give a natural touch to your interiors, one can experiment their décor with indoor gardens. Growing plants can make the house look lively and lavish. If you have an old ladder, use it to keep pots on it; add some flowering houseplants or plant stands.
Contemporary or traditional wall art
Indian art is usually a medley of colours, patterns, and textures which makes it suitable to be juxtaposed with any decor theme and scheme. Floral textures or geometric textures in pastel pallets are a great addition to any home. Just refrain from cluttering the space with too many things, club the pieces to keep similar elements together. An exotic piece of art in a vivid colour palette and intricate patterns can liven up a drab or blank wall. You can add a beautiful tapestry of intricate mandala patterns or a stunning warli pattern.
Other than this house decor can be modified with multi-utility equipment, bold colours in the interiors and nest of tables.
