After a hiatus of seven years, Simone Singh is back on the small screen with Star Plus' Ek Hasina Thi. She told Karan Bhardwaj that TV is a better place to work now

Simone Singh is back to world of daily soaps after a hiatus of seven years. last seen in eponymous show Heena, which shot her to fame, the actor is excited to get back with Star Plus’ Ek Hasina Thi. “It’s thrilling. I kept away all these years because TV got too hectic. I couldn’t find myself fit anymore into it, specially the daily soaps. Also, I was being offered similar roles. It takes 28 days to full month which leaves no scope for your personal life. After a point, you feel redundant,” she said adding that TV has changed tremendously in last one decade and she finds the medium a better place to work than before. “Now it is more organised. You know when you are required. You are informed in advance so you know how to keep up with other professional and personal engagements,” she said.

Set in the eastern megapolis of Kolkata, Ek Hasina Thi is a story of a woman seeking justice for a crime committed in the past. However, Simone plays mother to an antagonist character in the show. Her look is also being talked about. She would be seen in side swept curls, pearl strings, chiffon saris and lace blouses. “The lady is modern and assertive. I sat with makers and we mutually decided the look,” she told us. Singh doesn’t like to watch daily soaps. “I don’t follow any Hindi serial though I have been part of them,” she said.

In the past, the actor has anchored many English shows abroad. She also appeared in films, notably in Being Cyrus. “At the moment, I have not taken any other assignment since the show would require most of my time. I had to prepare a lot to get into the character that has grey shades,” she said. Why did you have to come back with a negative characterIJ “It’s not an out and out negative but she has grey shades. She knows what she wants and she gets it at any cost. I agreed to do it because it was a good idea to surprise the audience. They wouldn’t have expected me to appear in this persona,” she said adding that her fans were missing her on screen.

Singh and her husband like to travel in free time. She also loves reading. Would you like to take part in reality showsIJ “I don’t think that I fit the bill. I don’t see myself participating in reality shows like Bigg Boss. But I don’t see any qualm in participating in talent shows in a different capacity. I would love to host them,” she said.
