Alka Panda, DG, BIS in her address stressed the need for developing ISO standards which will meet the needs of most vulnerable groups of population likely to be impacted by climate change. While doing so, care must be taken to keep in account the needs and aspirations of developing countries for sustainable development and addressing environmental issues at the same instance.
More than 40 subcommittees and working groups met to discuss on various issues linked to standards and tools on environmental management which witnessed the participation of more than 225 delegates from 50 countries.
Other than discussions on the revision of standards on greenhouse gas emissions for products, organisations and projects, the meetings also discussed on the development of guidance standard on the application of Water Foot printing standard. Another important standard under development is the communication of environmental labeling. This standard will provide requirements for labeling parameters on a product relating to its footprint label or declarations.
