Model-turned-actor Karan Chhabra speaks to P Sharma about being a music and dance fanatic and boring his friends with purchasing binges. He’s also a mamma’s boy
I think I am blessed to be in this industry. I entered TV from a reality show called Dare to Date, where I went to Gujarat to meet a girl and had maddening time with her. I will remember it for the rest of my life because it was my only shoot out of Mumbai and the girl I was supposed to date was crazy, but cute.
My experience in TV has been amazing. I like working hard each day for my family and myself.
We have hectic schedules that go up to at least 12-15 hours a day. So whenever I get hours off, I pack my bags and leave on an adventurous trip. I cannot stay home during a holiday. So you will see me either partying, shopping or doing things with my family.
I am a Delhi boy and was raised in Meerut. My school days at Modern were amazing.
We used to spend our weekends watching movies or playing football. I was famous in school for being in the team. Girls love football players. I think that was the reason I learnt football! I generally get up early in the morning, drink juice and read the newspaper. I am a fitness freak, so my day generally starts with working out in the gym, or playing football at a Mumbai stadium. My brother is in the hotel management industry and often cooks for us.
I love Italian and Punjabi food, but believe nobody cooks Punjabi food better than my mother. I don’t mind being called a mamma’s boy. We are very close. Our habits and nature are similar. So we are like buddies and spend quality time together.
last weekend I was in Delhi for a meeting and my mother accompanied me. We went shopping at Select City Walk and I bought her clothes.
The best feeling is when I buy something expensive for my parents from my hard-earned money. They feel proud and that motivates me to work more.
I am particular about my passion for music and dance. I cannot miss practice. I learnt dance from Shiamak Davar during college, and follow it religiously. I watch dance shows and try to practice difficult steps. I am also planning to be on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa next year, but it is not decided yet.
I feel relaxed when listening to music. I am not finicky about any particular genre. I like everything from romantic types to house, dub step and trance.
Atif Aslam and Mohit Chauhan’s voices are very different, and rank among my favourites.
During weekends I also shop and party with friends.
At times, they get bored with this habit of mine. I pick up whatever I like, without thinking much. I am not brand conscious; I prefer wearing comfortable clothes.
My weekends end with partying with friends. We party like crazy people. After a week off all the hard work, I think I deserve to party like a rock star!
