According to a travel survey on popular places travellers frequently visit, Delhi ranks first in India and eighth in Asia while london wins top world honours
When you put a pin, decide to pack your bags and escape from the daily rat race, that life has become, there are plenty of places you can be and plenty more that you can think of being in. You would want to be in Kolkata during Durga Puja, Goa during Christmas, the Rann of Kutch during the Rann Utsav and the ghats of Benaras during the Ganga aarti — if you love to be around people, and plenty of chaos. If an adrenaline rush is what you seek, you can head to Rishikesh, Coorg, Kullu-Manali, Darjeeling and Sikkim for some intense river rafting. And in case you are a history nut and dig monuments and seek a story in every old monument — Delhi is your stop.
According to a latest survey conducted by a renowned travel website on popularity, Delhi ranked first in India and eighth in Asia. The winners were determined using an algorithm that took into account the quantity and quality of reviews and ratings for hotels, restaurants and attractions in destinations worldwide, gathered over a 12-month period, as well as traveller booking interest on the website.
Going by the list that they released, it was quite a surprise to find Gurgaon on it. Not that we don’t find anything specially unique there, it just does not come across as a suitable destination for tourists. More surprising was to find scenic places like leh, ladakh and Kerala at the bottom of the list. But Rajasthan definitely deserves a cheer as Jaipur, Udaipur, Jaisalmer and Jodhpur, all made it to the list.
Just not India, the survey gave london the top world honours, with Cambodia’s Siem Reap at the number one position in Asia. The Topkapi Palace, Golden Horn and the Obelisk of Theodosius put Istanbul on the list, too, along with Paris.
