With Sensation making its debut on the shores of Hyderabad, Eric Keijer, event director, shares with R Sharma the idea behind the white theme and how is it is going to be different from other nightlife experiences
In the past 10 years, we have seen many EDM events solely dedicated to dance music. But, this is the first time that a nightlife experience is making its way on the Indian ground. With Sensation, India, the organisers are bringing 20 years of dance-event experience to India with a huge line-up including Afrojack, Axwell et al. Eric Keijer, event director of Sensation, shares the idea behind the white dress code and why they chose Hyderabad as the location for the biggest nightlife event.
As this is the first time Sensation is making its way to the country, what all is in store for the peopleIJ
Sensation is not just an EDM event but its a total nightlife experience. That means that we have the a spectacular light show, the best pyrotechnics and the best DJ’s of the world. Next to that, we have regular floor tickets but also private VIP table service for our visitors.
What is the idea behind white themeIJ
The idea behind the white dress code is that white unites! With Sensation we ‘celebrate life’ all over the world and the white dress code — equals and unites the visitors. The white dress code is also a tribute to Miles Stutterheim. He was one of the founders of our company and creative mind behind Sensation. Miles was killed 15 years ago at the age of 25 after a car-crash in Amsterdam. We decided not to mourn about his death but to celebrate that he lived and because of that, we decided not to wear black at his funeral and wore wear white instead. So as a tribute to him, we ask the audience to celebrate the life and to dress in white.
The line-up looks pretty big. Can we expect the event to move around the countryIJ Or would it be only restricted to HyderabadIJ
This show is our biggest show and it hasn’t been outside of Amsterdam before. India will be the first to see Welcome to the Pleasuredome outdoors. At this moment, we are only focussing on Hyderabad but if there is a demand for Sensation in other cities also, we might look into the possibilities for touring with our event. That won’t be happening before 2017 though.
Why did you choose Hyderabad and not any other cityIJ
Hyderabad is our choice because of the venue and regulations that make Sensation possible during the nightly hours. Next to that, Hyderabad is a beautiful city with a great party crowd. We also received great support from the Telangana Tourism board and without that Sensation won't be possible.
You are bringing the festival to India at a time when dance music is at its peak. How do you think this will change the perception of the genre in the countryIJ
With Sensation, we are bringing 20 years of dance-event experience to India. It is the most spectacular and top-notch show that is available in the world. We will bring the dance music genre in India to a higher level.
It is a one-day party that will run for six hours. What are the experiences that people can look forward toIJ
With Welcome to the Pleasuredome people can expect the best lights and pyro show that is available together with the musical performances of some of the world best dj’s like Axwell, Afrojack, laiback luke, lost Frequencies and of course, our own resident Mr White.
