Hindustan Petroleum Corporation limited (HPCl) and Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) organised a driver’s training programme. Three hundred and fifty drivers from 43 DTC depots attended this programme. Driver training booklets on petroleum conservation were distributed amongst drivers to follow driving tips and spread awareness towards fuel conservation.
Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight (OGCF) 2015 was a citizen-centric mega event focussed on specific target groups. Training of commercial heavy duty vehicle drivers was one such activity. The objective of this activity was to involve drivers of commercial vehicles to underline their contribution in fuel conservation through better driving habits and superior vehicular maintenance.
Accordingly, it was decided to hold an event of Driver Training Programme in Delhi during OGCF 2015 involving Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).
The programme was designed to spread the importance of conservation of petroleum products and to impart effective driving tips to all drivers so that they adopt efficient driving techniques and save this invaluable natural resource.
DTC has a fleet of approximately 5,600 buses and 12,600 drivers who are operating in Delhi NCR and adjoining states. PK Uppal, chief manager, HPCl, underlined the importance of energy in over-all development and prosperity of our country. Due to very low domestic crude oil production (22.4 per cent), India is importing its major requirement of oil and gas which is ultimately draining the country’s precious foreign exchange.
Abhay Bakre, executive director, PCRA and Sanjiv Kumar, secretary environment, Delhi government, also stressed upon the importance of conservation of petroleum products and motivated all to spread awareness about this activity.
The attraction of the programme was a skit prepared and demonstrated by PCRA on how to adopt effective cooking measures at home, which will lead to minimal wastage of lPG, use of public transport and carpooling to reduce consumption of petrol and diesel which will lead to a cleaner environment.
PCRA made a presentation to drivers containing useful tips on driving habits to obtain maximum mileage. IGl also made a presentation on maintenance of vehicles to reduce wastage of CNG.
Kulanand Joshi, additional secretary, Environment, RK Kasana, chief general manager (DTC), V Nagarajan, director, Commercial (IGl), Alok Kumar Gupta, deputy general manager (HPCl) and Amit Kumar Basu, regional level coordinator also attended the programme. The theme of OGCF 2015 was “Indhan Bachao — Jan Dhan Badhao.”
