It was sustainable fashion and textile day at lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort’17 and designer Anavila Misra presented What is the Sari for in 2017, communicating her philosophy of keeping the sari relevant through time
Compress ‘sustainable’, ‘organic’, ‘handwoven’ and ‘sari’ into a single word and you get ‘Anavila.’ One stretch of a garment with boundless possibilities, the sari drapes down from history and continues to withstand the test of time to remain ever-evolving.
“The sari will be as much as part of our future as it was of our history. It continues to evolve with time and remain relevant. The fluidity of the garment is so amazing that it drapes on the silhouette of your choice,” she tells us.
Designer Anavila Misra dedicates her craft in making the sari not only sustainable and relevant but also uber trendy to the young.
The designer is known for successfully weaving new textiles with different organic yarns in natural dyes. Her efforts for reviving traditional techniques generates employment for weavers. Her creativity comes with consciousness, making her the ideal brand on fashion forecasts.
The designer finds a muse in leading actor Priyanka Bose, globally known for her meaningful work in the field of cinema. “Priyanka’s approach to her craft is with a purpose and she has created her own space in Indian and international cinema. She is an artist who makes a mark for India on a multicultural platform,” Anavila says.
She has curated a unique summer look for Priyanka which separates from her collection— a leaf green linen sari with an underlayer of net. It is teamed with a white shirt blouse and a polka-dotted petticoat. The look is completed with a pair of fabric shoes.
With this presentation, Anavila hopes that more and more young women will embrace the sari as their personal expression.
“I feel we can look at the sari just as other separates in our wardrobe rather than a complete ensemble by itself. like we would mix and match other garments, the sari pairs well with different pieces and can be worn for any occasion. I feel more and more young women can embrace the sari as another separate in their wardrobes that can be paired with just about anything. Priyanka is a very talented actor and a good friend. She reflects the ethos of our brand perfectly. Her approach to the craft is with a purpose. She is an artist who makes a mark for India on a multicultural platform,” she explains. Talking about the forthcoming trends, the designer tell us,“For this summer, I suggest pairing a light linen sari with a cropped shirt. We have printed petticoats with pockets for summer. The sari can be draped in a manner that the pockets are accessible and the petticoat becomes a visually aesthetic feature of the ensemble.”
