Ritu Beri launched a solidarity scarf as a tribute to womanhood at a recent do at JW Marriott Hotel. By K Bhardwaj

Beautiful, wonderful and powerful…” that’s how designer Ritu Beri described a bunch of women gathered at the JW Marriott Hotel on the eve of International Women’s Day. The achievers raised the toast to womanhood and spoke on the challenges and advantages. “I am happy and proud to be a woman. I am also blessed with a daughter. I would have gone for a second child if I had not got a girl at first,” said the designer. Beri also launched a scarf as her solidarity for women. “I extend my solidarity and support to all women in this world. There are many who are equipped and capable of doing things but there are women who don’t have any resource and are facing challenges. I believe in the strength and power of an individual. This scarf is dedicated to all those selfless, intelligent, brave and creative women who are contributing their bit in shaping this world better,” she said.

Another firefighter present was Najma Heptulla who batted for the security of women. The outspoken lady dedicated the evening to those who have been at the receiving end. “I have three daughters. As a parent, I also feel insecure at times. There is a major fear of security in this country for women. I think we need to create more awareness,” she said. Political leader Alka lamba wants ‘beautiful women’ to stage a ramp walk in Parliament. “Our leaders believe that short dresses tempt men to rape. So if we have beautiful women in ‘temple of democracy’, it may help in changing the mindset of the leaders,” she said. The discussion was followed by a lunch hosted by Beri and ASSOCHAM ladies league.
