Rannvijay Singh confronted fear, kissed his grave and partied all night long while on an expedition for his forthcoming show. He shared details with Iknoor Kaur
A crick in the left knee, a sprain in the neck and a close encounter with death were not enough to hamper Rannvijay Singh’s audacious spirit. With a mission to conquer his fears and challenge the rules of nature, he recently set out on an expedition where he not only swung on the string of life but also learnt how to walk out of his comfort zone, happily. The VJ’s first production venture in collaboration with MTV, Rann VJ Run is not only a documentation of his adventurous voyage but an emotional journey of willpower, faith, dedication and self control. The weekly show commenced on October 27.
“Everyone has a comfort zone. If I tell a singer to go and dance, he or she will feel very uncomfortable doing it. So what happens when one is made to get out of their comfort zoneIJ Can that person muster up the courage to do that thingIJ That is exactly what the show is about. I get out of my comfort zone and see what I can do,” he shared.
Rannvijay feels that with Roadies he has been stereotyped. He explained, “I have definitely evolved with Roadies. I started as a contestant, became the host and then the judge. However, in my real life I am not. I am very different as a person. I want to do something challenging. Through this show I’m trying to discover myself again.” In the show, he will be seen doing extreme sports like motocross, kite surfing, snow boarding and fly surfing. Was it riskyIJ “Yes, it was. But I did it. I met extreme athletes who did this everyday. It was not only about doing the sport. It was about doing it in the correct manner. All the sports were extremely tough and needed discipline. I lived the appropriate lifestyle, ate the required food and gave up what had to be given up. It was a lot about self-control.”
Though Rannvijay is fit, he faced a lot of physical challenges. He said, “Every sport requires a very different kind of physique. I am someone who is very fit because of my lifestyle but I’m not a body builder. So my body did almost give up at times.”
The jockey-actor’s hit and miss moment came in while he was trying his hands at the very first sport — motocross. “I was in Dubai and I had these expert athletes training me. But I felt that my forearms were not ready for the sport. However, I went ahead with it. Now a sport like motocross is literally a ‘do or die’ one. So while I was doing it, my forearms gave up. I just couldn’t hold onto the bike and was in terrible pain, but at the same time I knew that if I let go, this is it. I’d be dead in a shot. So, I held on and finished it. That day was extremely emotional for me. There is much more that goes into a sport than just skill,” he said.
Apart from action, you will also see the VJ partying all night long and roaming in the cities he visits. Rannvijay visited Dubai, liverpool, Scotland, Brighton, london, Zurich, Switzerland, Istanbul, South of Turkey, Germany and Austria. Thus, travel, party and adventure are the three USPs of the show. However, Rannvijay dismisses the show as a travel one. “It is an emotional journey of a person that can inspire people. It has fear, hurt, pain, skill, determination, opportunity, fun, excitement and relaxation. So while you see me attempting extreme sports, you will also see me partying at a night club and roaming. But it is not a travel show. It is about me and my journey,” he added.
