Comfort logic

Comfort logic

Fashion has often meant sacrifice. More often than not, the sacrifice women make is their comfort. From corsetry to stilettos, women are convinced that to be glamorous, they must struggle to walk, sit, or even breathe. A slow revolution over the past few years seems poised to reach it’s zenith in 2016. What shoe is the coolestIJ A flat mule. What dress is the sexiestIJ A slip dress. What pants should you wear to workIJ Sweatpants.

As soon as our winter turns to spring, pull out your whites and unabashedly dress like Jitender in white from top to toe. The coolest crowd will sport shirts that the masters of pattern making have deconstructed into various shapes and drapes. Try the bare shouldered shirt or dress — it’s the single largest trend one can think of for 2016. If that’s too much, invest in lightweight denim that’s been moulded into every type of garment and then, wear it all together!

If you examine all the runway images for 2016, the one thing you’ll find least is a fitted dress. Instead of being conscious of your diet, buy loose clothes. Combine them with an open short statement jacket to add a little structure.

Closer home, designers are focussed on bringing comfort while using our extensive, rich library of handwoven fabrics. Such is the commitment that almost every designer’s propositions for the new year include beautiful textiles. Our weaves and embroideries are being rediscovered and celebrated like never before. But being in India means we have access to something the world can only call a luxury. Once you’re wearing something that special and inherently beautiful, you don’t need much by way of design. Just a shirt, kurta, trouser-jacket is enough to set you apart and give you credit as a stylish person.
