Sharang Bhaskaran tracks down few of the games that you can engage yourself in at the ongoing Beer Week in Gurgaon

No good story has ever started like “so I was high on pizza..” It needs beer. It won’t be wrong to call beer the ‘national drink of youngsters’. Wherever we go, however we party, a glass of beer is a must. How about freshly brewed beerIJ Yeah, nothing can beat that. As the heat makes life intolerable in the city, many of us look forward to some nice cold beer, good food and the company of friends. And the ongoing Beer Week in Gurgaon promises just that with a load of games, music, beer crawls and masterclasses with some of the best brewers from the country who are here to teach us a thing or two about drinking fine craft beer. The event was organised by GoYaNo in association with Beer Week.

Have you played beer pong or flip, sip or stripIJ If you haven’t, then you ought to try it once and we can assure you that it will be your favourite drinking with friends. We tried our hand at some of these games and it was a lot of fun. It’s Saturday and here is a list of  a few fun games that you can try your hand at in the company of friends and of course, beer!

Flip, sip and sing

Two teams of an equal number of players stand on opposite sides of a table, facing one another. The players directly facing are opponents. In front of each teammate is a disposable plastic cup filled with a set amount of beer. Generally, the first line inside a disposable cup is used as a marker.

Chug first

More than a game of skill, this is a game of raw team chugging. Two teams of five to nine players sit across from each other at a long table, each player armed with cups of equal size and amount of beer. A beer master chugs and slams his glass to the table, starting the match. The first drinkers from each team chug, slam their empty glass on the table then show the completeness of their drinking by turning their glass upside-down over their head. As soon as they hear the first team-mate’s glass hit the table, the second drinker can go and so on until the contest reaches the end of the table.

Beer Pong

This one is arguably one of the most popular drinking games. You will need one ping pong ball and 12 glasses of beer. Arrange six glasses of beer on either side of a table as if you were setting up bowling pins. Divide yourselves in to two groups. Each group should sit opposite the other with six beers in front of them. As you take your turn, you must throw the ping pong ball in to the opposite teams glasses. If it lands inside a glass, the opposing team must drink the beer immediately. Once done, rearrange the beers so they are all close to each other. The winning team is the team that manages to make the opposing team drink all their drinks. At the end of the game, the losing team must drink all remaining beer on the winning side.

But why stop at these few gamesIJ Don’t fuss. Not yet. we hunted down a few more games that you can try out.

Beer Roulette

This is a game of chance that will involve everyone getting messy. One player is appointed to take as many cans of beer as there are players to another room. The player will vigorously shake one can of beer. That player brings the cans back into the room where the players have congregated and hands them out. Every player takes a can and opens it. Whoever gets sprayed has to chug their entire game.

Drunk Jenga

It is the classic board game, modified to be the perfect drinking game for any group of friends. To begin, you’ll need to grab a pen or a Sharpie marker and a box of Jenga blocks. Write different rules on a bunch of tiles. Rules can vary wildly. An example of some rules might be, “take two drinks,” “make someone else drink” or “don’t speak for the rest of the game.” Be creative.

Our beer mantra for the day would be: Eat. Chug. Play. Repeat.
