Ahead of his India tour, Deadmau5 tells Iknoor Kaur that he can’t wait to eat spicy food and sit on an elephant

Apart from wearing his famous headgear and asking the world to raise their weapons, Joel Thomas Zimmerman, popularly known as Deadmau5, has a whole list of things he wants to do on his first visit to India. And the one that tops the list is meeting Daler Mehndi. “I am a diehard fan of Daler Mehndi and his track Tunak Tunak Tun. I also want to try out the spiciest Indian curry available and, if I get an opportunity, I would want to ride an elephant,” says the EDM artiste who will be touring India this weekend with Sunburn Arena starting from Mumbai to Bengaluru and ending with New Delhi.

Zimmerman feels that India has an “unquenching thirst for electronic dance music”. Thus, he plans to reveal some of his new tracks during his tour. He says, “I cannot wait to check out India. There’s something about this country and the people — they spread such a warm vibe. I’ll be playing 10 songs. For fans craving for music I’ll play new songs like Your Ad Here and Suckfest 9001.”

The artiste has always experimented with his work, from his first album Get Scraped to his last released At Play in the USA, Volume 1. One should never limit oneself, he says. “I like to consider myself an all-rounder and I don’t try to be king of the scene. I want to do everything from writing film scores to producing pop albums. Everyone expects to hear new things, ever evolving sounds, compositions, new genres, originality and I always believe in bringing out something new out of me,” he explains.

Zimmerman has also completed recording his new “double record” album. Though he refuses to reveal the name, he adds, “It consists of two discs, two continuous mixes and 25 tracks and I’m extremely proud of it.”
