Dresses with floor-sweeping hems, recycled fabrics and interesting check patterns are stealing the show at the ongoing fashion week

There’s so much happening with hemlines at the ongoing Amazon India Fashion Week. They are asymmetrical and adorned with some interesting hand work. Maxi dresses, which have been in trend for sometime now, are the highlight of almost every show. Take for example, the collections put up by designers Malini Ramani, Rina Dhaka and Rajesh Pratap Singh.

Dresses with floor-sweeping hems, straight silhouettes and flowy fabrics featured in each of their shows. What’s moreIJ The checks are back in a dramatic fashion. Rina’s line showcased the classic checks, stripes, spider waves and ikat like patterns. Her collection also had box-like asymmetrical designs such as rectangular and square patterns. Cutwork, beadwork and wrinkled fabrics were used in the line. Designer duo of Abraham and Thakore gave the Indian wear a contemporary twist. Be it the kurta or Nehru jacket or salwar, they tweaked the traditional to present something new.

There was a message on recycling, hidden in the garments. “We have created sequins for evening wear from discarded hospital X-ray plates and films. We sourced antique recycled brocade borders and ribbons. Snaps, hooks and studs have been converted into decorative ornaments. The garments are made of fabrics as diverse as cotton, wool, nylon and polyester. Some are recycled and many are collected from different sources,” shared the designers.
