Aditi Rao Hydari sheds her girl-next-door image in her next film. She told Iknoor Kaur how cool it was to wear a bikini
If you look at her filmography, you will realise she has always been a girl-next-door. Be it Delhi6, Rockstar, Yeh Saali Zindagi or others, Aditi Rao Hydari has been a simple girl on screen. But with her next movie Boss, which also stars Akshay Kumar, Shiv Pandit and Ronit Roy, the actress is all set to shed her cliched image and don a bold avatar. She said, “Boss is a complete fully-packed mass entertainer movie and I am the element that brings the romance, freshness and glamour into it. I think a girl in any mass film like this is there to bring a certain fun aspect to it. It is a fun film and I am doing it in order to reach a wider audience. I wore a bikini and I was very comfortable. I like to be desirable and I don’t make any bones about it.”
Aditi didn’t work too hard to get into shape for her bikini appearance. “I trained for five weeks with Rahul Kalra and I knew one thing — I am not going to lose weight. I only toned my body so that I look natural and feminine. That way it looks graceful as well,” she shared.
As a person who is new in the industry, Aditi feels that she needs to take baby steps and increase her bandwidth slowly. “It is good to be versatile and I want to see what I can do. I want to continue doing content-driven stuff in the future, but I think if my looks and my talent permit me to do masala films as well then there is no harm in it. I think credibility, glamour and talent go hand in hand and if you can do both then nothing like it. As an actor it’s very important to be talented as well as loved by people. You are loved for your talent but to reach to the masses, one needs to do masala films.” Since Aditi ventured into this genre for the first time, she was a little hesitant. However, she agreed over it soon. “I think perception of people changes in favour of market viability. I don’t have the power to be picky at the moment. I have to choose from what is offered to me. Budget and banner do not matter to me, but quality does. I will pick good stuff where I’m working with directors who take out the best in me. Akshay sir has helped me a lot. When such a big name endorses you, it definitely adds to your credibility. Just because I am doing a masala film, you can’t take away the talent that I have,” she explained.
Aditi uses her innocence as an advantage, she said. “People think I will never be able to get negative characters and I tell them that if I get such a role, then it will be because of my innocence. Sudhir Mishra told me during Yeh Saali Zindagi that it is my innocence that actually reflects the passion so deeply on my face. So I think it is more of an advantage to me than a disadvantage.”Though the actress didn’t reveal her forthcoming projects after Boss, she did say that her next few films will be “fun but content-driven,” she signed off.
From classy to massy
If Shiv Pandit’s “bad boy” attitude in Shaitan appealed to you, then his romantic “chocolate boy” image is worth a look. His forthcoming film Boss, where he will be seen playing Akshay Kumar’s parallel lead, will be all about his love affair with Aditi Rao Hydari’s character. “I will be playing Akshay’s younger brother. Both Akshay and I belong to a morally upright family with Mithun Chakraborty as our father. I fall in love with Aditi’s character and because of that lot of conflicts take place. That’s when Akshay, who is the Boss comes into picture and saves the situation,” he explained. Shiv enjoyed his time on set and said that the entire film was a grand experience for him.
