From Rakhta Charitra to Shor in the City, from Badlapur to Parched, there has been a sudden discovery of Radhika Apte. She got candid with Unnati Joshi

“My time is still to come. This is just the beginning. It took me a while to feel focused about what I want to do, I did Shor in the City and all other films but I didn’t know if this is what I want to do. It has only been three years when I actually decided that this is what I wanted to do and peruse this as my career. So this is literally the beginning for me.”

Her recent movieParched was critically acclaimed globally. However, in India it majorly made headlines for its nude scenes. When asked about that, Radhika was no-nonsense, “I don’t create controversies so I don’t deal with them. I don’t need to process these and therefore I don’t react to these things.”

And in true sassy style she returned to the business at hand; launching a fashion store. Talking about her style she said, “I believe in being comfortable in what I wear. I am someone who doesn’t like shopping; I am also someone who doesn’t buy expensive clothes and I cannot even wear heavy clothes.”

Radhika who hails from Pune went to london soon after the release of Shor in the City to learn dancing, movement analysis, speaking on which the actress said, “I used to be a Kathak dancer then I got introduced to contemporary dance by Gauri Vanarase in Pune. I used to learn from her for a long time. I always wanted to go out to learn dance but I never had time. I was pre-occupied with theatre and had five productions going on. I had a year off later that time and that was the right time, I thought. It had changed my life completely, in every way. My personal life, my point of view, how I feel about work, everything has changed.”

Sharing her experience in the short film  Ahalya, Radhika said, “I did it as a fun exercise. Sujoy is a good friend and he said, ‘let’s go for three days and shoot, there will be good food’ and so I went but didn’t expect a response like this. It feels great.”

What made her give a nod for KabaliIJ “I had already given a nod because of Rajinikanth but the bonus was that it was directored by Ranjith. He has a very different way of looking at work. And I had a good part. Kumudhavalli has a very particular set of values. In the film, there are a lot of flashbacks where he (Rajinikanth) draws inspiration from her dialogues,” she told us.

With films like Parched and Kabali, released already, Radhika is gearing up for three more movies Bombairiya, Ashram  and Ghoul to hit the screens.

“I don’t know if I will do a Bollywood masala because I think what I do is quite a masala,” she said.

The actress was in the capital lately and also walked the ramp unveiling the festive collection from Max.

Wearing a dress from the collection she said, “The festive season is coming, I was working and today I feel like I have dressed to celebrate and I am actually looking forward to Diwali now. I have never got a movie where I could wear all these types of clothes”.
