Feet trace ancient patterns, hands sketch stories, and eyes hold devotion — the stage transforms into a space where rhythm, emotion, and tradition meet. At Triveni Kala Sangam, Rhythms of Reverence presented Bharatanatyam as both a practice of devotion and an exploration of personal expression. Conceived and choreographed by Guru Smt Sindhu Mishra, the performance drew on the bani of Guru Shri Dhandayuthapani Pillai, interpreted through Guru K N Dakshinamurthy, while giving young dancers room to shine with individuality and presence.
The evening began with Gaaiye Ganapati Jaga Vandana, an invocation to Lord Ganesha. Ria Gupta and Tanusha Tyagi moved with clarity and grace, translating intricate adavus into expressions that felt alive. Shri Nitin Sharma’s score supported the dancers beautifully, creating a rhythm that balanced tradition with contemporary sensibility. Their performance suggested a deep understanding of both technique and emotion, making devotion feel tangible rather than performative.
In Navadurga, Ashi Vats and Vibhooti Bhardwaj brought distinct interpretations to the nine forms of the Devi. Each dancer captured the contrasts of power and poise, intensity and delicacy, revealing confidence and interpretive maturity well beyond their years. The choreography allowed them to explore character and expression fully, and their commitment transformed each movement into storytelling that was compelling and vivid.
The Thillana in Raagam Paras and Adi Talam brought the evening to an exuberant climax. Shatakshi Gupta, Krithika Kumar, and the ensemble combined speed, rhythm, and expressive gestures to create a finale that was joyous, energetic, and celebratory. The dancers carried the momentum of the evening with confidence, demonstrating that classical dance can be both disciplined and thrilling.
On stage, the dancers inhabited their roles with quiet intensity. In the subtle tilt of a head, the measured flare of a hand, or the sudden acceleration of a footwork sequence, one could sense their inner dialogue with the music and the myth. They shaped each composition with curiosity and conviction, letting tradition guide them while leaving space for interpretation.
The performance felt alive, not as repetition of steps but as a thoughtful exploration of rhythm, emotion, and presence. Rhythms of Reverence celebrated devotion, imagination, and individuality, leaving the audience with a sense of wonder and a reminder of the enduring power of classical dance to inspire reflection and thought.
